The Playstation is watching you…

Sony’s newest EyeToy, the PlayStation Eye for the PS3 is unveiled

Sony revealed today the new PlayStation Eye for the PS3.  The next model of Eye-Toy, now with a build in microphone and takes advantge of “huge advances in USB camera and microphone technology”  (from what?  the Eye-Toy?!)

According to [Half life source]:

The camera is a multi-tasking piece of equipment in that it will perform the normal tasks of taking photographs and creating video files for storage on the PS3 hard drive, but also comes with integrated software called EyeCreate that allows the user to create professional looking movies. The camera also sports a 120 frame-per-second rate (at 320 x 240, and 60 frames per second for 640 x 480), that allows for smooth video and even nice low-light operation. It has an adjustable zoom that features a 56 degree field of view for close-up work and a 75 degree field of view for a full view of you and part of the room.

There was no word on pricing… it will be interesting to see Sony’s price point.

Ok, so a little research shows some more information over at the [PS3 Fanboy site]

ctmpphpduevc6 So the fan boy is saying that this isn’t a toy (which I gathered from Sony dropping the word ‘toy’ from the name) with features like ‘a noise reduction mic’, Low-light capture, Time lapse control, and a 4 channel audio input.

Now I just bought a new webcam, that about 1/2 the speed of this camera, minus the mic, for $30.  the PS-EYE is going for $59.99

Now I wonder if it’ll be PC (USB) compatible, but I would still call it a stretch to say this is a ‘revolutionary’ web cam.  Just what looks to be a good one.

Guitar Hero getting Ted Nugent.

Posted by pogowolf on May 18, 2008

Well according to [Guitar Hero News] it looks like it.  According to the radio station WRIF out of Detroit, Ted told listeners he is involved in the a future Guitar Hero.  Granted this could mean GH4, could be a Guitar Hero: Ted Nugent  (like what they’ve done with the Aerosmith edition.)

The only song specifically talked about was ‘Strangle Hold’, and no specific version of Guitar hero was stated.  So it could just be a track on Guitar Hero 4, or even just a downloadable track for GH3.  But the point is Strangle Hold is coming to Guitar Hero. =)

[The interview is here] around the 12:30 mark is where Ted starts talking about it.

For those that have NO idea what the song is.. It’s Youtube to the rescue!

Personally though, I would LOVE to see Hocus Pocus (Gary Hoey version)

WoW to get a graphics make over?

Posted by pogowolf on May 18, 2008

[Eurogamer] had an interview with J. Allen Brack to chat about the good, the bad and the ugly with the upcoming WoW expansion.   One thing of interest was the comment:

“Will we need a graphical update from the ground up at some point? Yep, probably.”

He also went on to say:

“That’s actually something we talk about every expansion, I’m positive we’ll talk about it next expansion.”

However it must be pointed out that graphic overhauls don’t always work. People will either not like the new client and/or find out the old client gave faster frame rates than the new one.

“A lot of people continued to play with the original client, because it was faster, or they preferred it, or were just used to it or whatever,” he said. “And so for me as a game developer, the idea that we would spend so much time and energy on something and have people go, ‘meh, that’s not really for me,’ that’s not very exciting.”

The Xbox 540?

Posted by pogowolf on May 18, 2008

[T3] is reporting some juicy gossip about the next XBox from Microsoft.  To just point out a few features:

1) 3rd Quarter of 2009 release date.

2) The new ‘Valhalla’ Chipset to allow for a slimmer and trimmer box

3) no word about the Blu-ray drive…

the interesting thing about this is  that all the rumors just seem to be a rehash of all the current rumors that have been floating around for ‘upgrades’ to the 360.  Though an ‘09 date would make sense because of the 7 year 360 life cycle.

The Hookers, The Xbox, and everything…

Posted by pogowolf on May 18, 2008

News.au has an [interesting article] about a pretty freaking smart 13 year old in Texas that stole his fathers credit card, called the credit company to extend a line of credit, and then took himself and a few pals on a $30,000 shopping spree that ending up with them in a hotel playing Halo with a few $1000 a night ladies of the night.. LOL!

What gets me is this Kid told the prostitutes that he and his friends where ‘little people’ from the circus and since state law doesn’t allow discrimination they had no right to refuse them!   LOL!!!!

on top of that, then the police asked why a 13 year old would want escorts he informed them that he thought it was what you did when you win won a World of Warcaft contest!!

So right there my friends proves that video games don’t cause violence.. it causes 13 year olds to hire hookers and play Halo!  Even at 13 I would have known when to put the game down..LOL

===================================================

pogowolf And I should have known that this story was fake when a 13 year old would choose HALO over a hot chick willing to give it up.  [GameRush] has reported that this whole thing was a fake and myself and a few other sites (like G4) got just as duped.

Age of Conan Pre-order rip offs.

Posted by pogowolf on May 18, 2008

Where as I’ve not seen much news on this yet (I’m sure it’s coming) some people whom pre-ordered Age of Conan in order to get into pre- open beta have been, pretty much, told to go to hell.

It’s seems Funcom “over booked” the pre- open Beta. Some some unlucky people have been told:  ‘Well sorry you paid up to $100  $150 [Amazon] for a pre-order with access to beta, but we’re not giving it to you.  da-da-dadada-daaaaaa’

It’s BS like this that give companies a bad name, and more back lash is sure to come as the Internet picks up the story.

‘Expert’ says Wii Fit should be banned…

Posted by pogowolf on May 18, 2008

Over on the [WiiFitChat] Blog, someone has posted an article stated that some poor little 10 year old was “devastated” after the game her [she was overweight].    Now I’m going to hold my tongue here for a moment but only add that after that state that after the above post some Tam Fry, an Obesity expert, has gone on the record stating:

“I’m absolutely aghast that children are being told they are fat. BMI is far from perfect but with children it simply should not be used.

A child’s BMI can change every month and it is perfectly possible for a child to be stocky, yet still very fit. I would be very concerned if children were using this game and I believe it should carry a warning for parents.”

Now, Nintendo has apologised for any offence the game might have caused thus far, but has refused to place a warning on the game so far.

——————————————————

pogowolf OK.. looks like the community needs yet another reality check.   First off the WiiFit is a game.   Yes it helps to get you moving so you aren’t just sitting on your ass which will help you to loose weight, but it’s a game none the less.   If you’re 10 year old is believing a VIDEO GAME over YOU.  Then you’re 10 year old has some other personal esteem issues other then just being called fat.   Tell the kid it’s a game not a fitness expert.    it’s only as smart as the programmers that created it.

Shenmue heading to the Wii?

Posted by pogowolf on May 18, 2008

In the RUMORS section of the Swedish gaming magazine ‘Game Reactor’ it’s said:

“Shenmue is back! Sega has rereleased classics like Nights,Bass Fishing and House of the Dead lately. Now it’s said that Shenmue is next. But don’t think that it’s about a new game, instead, they’re bringing back the two original Shenmue games with extra Wiimote-minigames which will be released for the Wii.”

Could we finally see the ending to what should have been a trilogy?  The bigger question; Will Sega do something as to not make the game so freaking boring?!
